Business Wire, Factiva 2007, All Rights ReservedBausch & Lomb signs agreement to acquire Curel® and Soft Sense® skin care product lines
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Bausch & Lomb (NYSE/BOL) announced Wednesday it has signed a definitive agreement to purchase the Curel® and Soft Sense® lines of skin care products from S.C. Johnson & Son, Inc.
This acquisition is consistent with Bausch & Lomb's strategic plan to add a therapeutic skin care business to its existing healthcare lines, which include products used in the eyecare, hearing care and oral care fields. Curel® and Soft Sense® creams and lotions utilize proprietary technology to enhance the delivery of moisturizing ingredients to dry or sensitive skin, and the Curel® line in particular has earned broad support among dermatologists.
The Curel® and Soft Sense® lines have combined sales of approximately $45 million. Curel® is the number three competitor in the therapeutic portion of the hand and body moisturizer market, and is one of the fastest growing participants in that category. Bausch & Lomb said today the further development of both product lines will be supported by the company's research and development expertise in formulations used to clean, disinfect or lubricate sensitive tissue, as well as by its extensive distribution organization serving drug, food and mass merchandise channels of trade.
The acquisition will not have a material impact on the company's results for 1993. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
