Textline Multiple Source Collection (1980-1994)BEIERSDORF TAKES OVER LA PRAIRIE OF USA
Beiersdorf of Hamburg is to take over La Prairie Inc of New York in the USA, announced Hans Otto Woebcke, chair of the board of directors at the AGM.
La Prairie was founded in Switzerland in 1979, and sells high-quality skin-care products. Its main areas of trading are the USA, France, Italy, Germany and Switzerland. La Prairie achieved retail sales of about US$ 60m in 1990, representing about 20% growth over the previous year.
La Prairie will continue to be run by its current management, but will be absorbed by Juvena (International) AG of Zurich in Switzerland.
Beiersdorf increased consolidated group turnover by 14.5% to just under DM 1.9bn in the first five months of 1991. The cosmed division lifted turnover by 22%, medical/pharma by 17%, and tesa by 3%. Domestic turnover increased by 17%, and foreign turnover by 10%.
Woebcke anticipates that these growth rates will slow down during 1991. Jobst and Juvena were absorbed into Beiersdorf in mid 1990, and the second half of that year brought in about DM 75m from what used to be the GDR.
The new federal states are expected to generate about DM 150m this year. Cosmed is likely to account for about DM 100m of this, tesa DM 30m, and medical/pharma, DM 20m. Turnover is expected to rise by about 4.3% over the year as a whole.
The AGM approved all regularly recurring items.
